Sweet Sixteen Party Themes

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope that the first week of the new year has gone well for you all. Now that the holidays are packed up and the new year has begun it's time to plan parties and events for this new year. Is your daughter's sweet sixteen birthday party this year?

Because it is winter and cold in many places, there are a couple of themes that are easy to put together and make your guests feel as though it's summertime for the night.

Fiesta Party - A Mexican Fiesta theme can really be a fun, bright way to have a party. For decorations you can get brightly colored tablecloths, colored lights, a piƱata and a couple of sombreros.

I recommend having a Mexican buffet...it can be as simple as make your own tacos to adding enchiladas, tamales and rice and beans. For drinks have a frozen drink (See below in the December newsletter)and something fruity.

If you can hang a backdrop of another multi colored fabric, have the guests pictures taken with the sombreros. Perhaps they can hold one of those frozen drinks too. Have a couple of fun shirts for them to put on for the pictures. Print the pictures out as party favors.

Download the Mexican Hat dance song from the internet. See what talent your guests have doing the dance!

Summer Beach Party - It's not summer...but the winter blues may be setting in...why not have a summer beach party? When the guests are invited, ask them to come in summer attire. Depending on where you live, you may have to crank up the heat on the eve of the party but it'll be worth it. Or research renting a few heat lamps.

Much the same as the Fiesta in ease, the summer party can be very simple, yet a lot of fun.

For decorations, decorate with beach balls (all sizes), umbrellas, a few beach chairs and towels around. All of this can be inside, even on a cold day. If you go to orientaltradingco.com they have lots of inexpensive decorations and silly summer things.

If you'd like to have a casual menu, bbq and chips and dip...sodas and bubbly waters. If you'd like to be a little more upscale you can still have a bbq but make shish ka bobs or tri tip with grilled bread and a tossed salad. It's very tasty and still simple. Serve ice cream on a stick for dessert.

Music can be mixed with the Beach Boys tunes and other summer memorable songs. Have it coming from a boombox.

Once again, like the fiesta, have a photo set up. Your guests can sit under a beach umbrella in their summer wear, sun glasses and funny hats and get their picture taken as a party favor.

Just think summer and ideas will come. Have the smell of sun tan lotion! Make Pina Coladas (virgin), Iced Tea and Lemonade.

You want a party favor to stand out and be memorable. A new line of fun and/or inspiring T-shirts are now available and a great idea for a party favor or theme for your sweet sixteen party or a party that may be a milestone such as 21st or 40th birthdays. I would like to present them to all of you, my readers. Of course, ideally, one or more make you smile and you'd like to order one for yourself, or perhaps you know someone in your circle of friends and family who would enjoy them and consider them for a special group or party. "Today's the day to get up the nerve" is a great quote for all of us heading into the future, boldly.

My name is Xochi and I love to plan parties! I've had a career in the movie business as an assistant director. My job is gathering a large group of people and organizing them no matter where or when or what type of filming. Through this experience and my love for hosting parties, I have gained the knowledge of how to put together a unique party, from creating the idea of the party through the steps of giving the party. It can be quite an adventure but does not need to be stressful! http://www.specialsweetsixteen.com
